The setting of Fate/Apocrypha is a parallel world to Fate/stay night where the Greater Grail was removed from Fuyuki after the Third Holy Grail War and disappeared for many years. Around the 2000s, around the same time as the Fifth Holy Grail War would have happened, the group that plundered the Grail,Yggdmillennia, openly declares their secession from the Mage's Association and that they are in possession of the Grail. The Association dispatches fifty magi to retrieve it, but all but one are instantly slaughtered by Lancer of Black. The one remaining manages to activate the reserve system of the Greater Grail, allowing for the summoning of fourteen Servants in total.
This marks the start of the Great Holy Grail War in Trifas, featuring two different factions, the Black Faction (黒の陣営, Kuro no Jinei?), whose members are part of Yggdramillennia, and the Red Faction (赤の陣営, Aka no Jinei?), whose members were sent by the Mage's Association with the exception of one from the Church. The Grail itself also summons Ruler to act as a mediator of the Holy Grail War.

I wasn't always a die-hard Type-Moon fan; I started taking notice of the franchise after seeing 真月譚 月姫 (Lunar Legend Moon Princess), then came the versus game entitled Melty Blood, And of course, came Fate/Stay Night, then followed by many more titles.

The thing I enjoy most about Type-Moon projects, especially the FATE series, are the historical inclusions in each servant characters, though obviously tweaked into a more fictional sense, some facts are actually accurate at some points; yet you learn about them without getting bored hahaha. Learning about them makes you want to research more into the character, and sometimes even try to decipher what's real and what's not.

For Fate/Apocrypha however, I enjoy the plot twists and how the perspectives of the Great Holy Grail war differs, compared to the previous Fate series' Holy Grail war. (don't worry, not giving away any spoilers haha) - Just when I thought that it would be the same old FATE, I was wrong.

The characters are interesting, the battles, well, Fate has always been epic when it comes to battles, so it's hard to compare hehe. -Though since Apocrypha has a lot of technicalities in the novel, you will need to seriously read and carefully understand each and every single detail. It's something that might require you to read again and again, and receive more revelations each time you do. Compared to Fate/Stay Night, which was a Visual Novel (GAME), reading a literal Light Novel (BOOK) takes more effort to fully understand. And well, Type-Moon projects aren't your normal fictional story books when it comes to plots.

I'd probably make a post, containing more about my thoughts on Apocrypha later on. Of course, with actual spoilers this time. I figured I'd stay quiet on my introductory post on Type-Moon's Fate/Apocrypha in case there are some or a lot of you who have not yet read the novel.

I, of course, will end this blog post with a LINK, so you may DOWNLOAD the light novel, translated by CanonRap. Edited/re-written, then converted to PDF by EIRI (me!). Do re-direct people to my blog post if they need the file. It takes much effort to translate, edit and convert a novel, so everyone else can enjoy~ Hoping our efforts don't go unrecognized hehehe
